Join the Chicago Region Trees Initiative from the Morton Arboretum to learn about food forests and how to help nature thrive!
Food from forests, in your own backyard? If you'd like to learn more about the possibility, join us for a talk on Food Forests, Monday, August 5th! This talk will be presented by Natalie Burgos, a Steward from the Chicago Region Trees Initiative from The Morton Arboretum and will go over the history behind food forests, how applicable they are in different scenarios and all of the benefits they can provide beyond fresh, local foods. The talk will also touch on the WaukGrow project which started establishing food forests in the Waukegan and North Chicago area and now is helping bring food forests throughout the Chicago region.
Always keen to help people learn new and unexpected aspects of the environment around them and enthusiastic about exploring new opportunities to improve and protect the natural world, Natalie Burgos strives to bring this energy into all her work in the environmental field. Her varied experience with multiple entities, from the National Park Service to restoration companies to The Morton Arboretum, helps her provide a unique perspective on the community tree plantings she leads, the virtual education bundles she’s created, and the various talks she’s given to professionals, students, and more about how we can all better care for the natural world. Her own experience of growing up interacting with and learning to love nature is one that she aims to help others experience so that they can also develop their own love and care for it to help more people realize how much of a part of it they truly are.
