Honor Juneteenth by learning about resources and strategies for researching ancestors of the antebellum period.
Juneteenth originated in Galveston to celebrate the day in 1865 when Union Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas to inform all enslaved people that they were now free. Juneteenth celebrations often focus on education.
In that spirit, LaBrenda Garrett-Nelson presents her experience and will highlight selected resources of particular use to those of African descent with roots in the antebellum period, as well as strategies for researching in this area.
