Discover the wider world of roleplaying games! Learn about the diversity of games beyond Dungeons & Dragons by sampling three unique games. Perfect for new players and RPG enthusiasts alike!
Tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs) empower players to take control of unique characters and embark on adventures arbitrated by a Game Master in an environment limited only by the players’ imagination. Many people are casually familiar with Dungeons & Dragons, but TTRPGs span a wide variety of genres and styles of gameplay. Some games are detail-oriented, perfect for players who like finding optimal strategies to take down foes. Other games focus on roleplaying and storytelling with minimal dice rolls, and some combine storytelling and combat with large dice pools where luck drives the narrative.
In this program, we will showcase three TTRPGs for players to sample. Vaesen is a horror roleplaying game inspired by Nordic folklore, where you play members of a secret society investigating monsters in late 1800s Europe. Stewpot is a cozy, rules-light fantasy game where retired adventurers work together to manage a tavern. Fate is a game that gives you the tools to run adventures in any setting you can think of (our Fate game will be a sci-fi adventure with a similar feel to Guardians of the Galaxy). We will also highlight the library’s selection of other RPGs.
This program is perfect for everyone, from people completely new to RPGs, to veterans looking to explore new games!
